Real Immigration Reform Would Deport "60 Minute's" Lara Logan, Birther Orly Taitz and Ted Cruz's Lunatic-Fringe Dad

Lara Logan of 60 Minutes
In the debates about immigration reform, far too much attention is being  paid to the quantity of immigrants rather than to their quality.  Yes, it is true that thousands of Mexicans cross into the United States every year, seeking a new life for themselves.  But whatever labor problems these hard-working people might cause pale in significance compared to the handful of right-wing crackpots we allow into our nation legally, who then proceed to wreak havoc with their imported brand of white supremacy.

The latest example is television producer Lara Logan, whose upbringing in apartheid South Africa may have nurtured her obsession with embarrassing if not bringing down the presidency of America's first black head of state.  This woman single-handedly concocted  a sensationalist exposé based on the supposed eye witness account of a man she knew to be a pathological liar.  The point of course was to provide the kind of  "evidence" that would energize right-wing politicians and their supporters in their efforts to mortally wound Barack Obama's presidency with a phony Benghazi scandal. Ms. Logan has almost succeeded in turning the once venerated "60 Minutes" news program into a FOX News caricature of itself.

Then of course there is Russian-Israeli Orly Taitz, the founder and leader of the super patriotic Birther
movement, which claims that President Obama is a fraud, who was born in Kenya and thus not eligible to be president.  The fact that a foreigner could turn up on American shores with such racist bull-corn and gain a following among 70 percent of the GOP essentially proves my point.  America is a racially-fragile society.    And thus we need to be far more discerning about whom we allow into our country.

I'll save Senator Ted Cruz for another post.  But right now  let me focus on his European-Cuban father, Rafael Cruz.  This is the man who shaped the Texas politician's worldview.   Rafael Cruz has publicly warned that Obama's death panels are coming, that "evolution" is a communist lie, and that Obama should "go back to Kenya."

The Department of Homeland Security should be more discriminating  about who they let into the country and a lot more sensible about who they deport.   America has enough homegrown racial problems without importing bigots from abroad.
