Why I'm Boycotting "60 Minutes" over Benghazi

Firstly, the "60 Minutes" Benghazi fiasco wasn't really a fiasco.  It was a calculated lie that CBS was using to gain conservative viewership for its popular investigative news show.  Secondly,  Ms. Lara Logan's fluffy 90 second apology was not even an apology.  She evaded responsibility for energizing the right-wing Benghazi conspiracy theorists in Congress by dumping all the blame on Dylan Davies. However, this was a man whom she knew to be a pathological liar when she interviewed him.

Jay Rosen at pressthink.org put the whole issue in perspective:
CBS was not just wrong, it was wrong about an explosive and highly contentious story in which extra care should have been taken because of the risk that a faulty report will be instantly politicized. This is exactly what happened, adding an extra layer of gravity to the situation. As the New York Times wrote on November 8:
'The day after the CBS report, several Republican senators held a news conference, demanding that the administration allow congressional investigators to interview survivors of the Benghazi attack. In particular, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said that he would block all administration nominations until it met the Republicans’ demands.'

If "60 Minutes" has any wish to regain the integrity it once had, then it will have to do an investigative piece to expose how or even if it was really duped.  As for Ms. Logan, having misconstrued America's political evolution, I would suggest she pack her bags and go back to where she came from. Uh oh. She is truly a woman without a country.  That is, the apartheid South Africa she grew up in and that molded her political values no longer exists.  Never mind. Maybe all she really needs to do is move across the street to  FOX News, where I'm sure she'll fit in nicely.
