U.S. Vets Link up with Martial Arts School

Homemade Cake being Auctioned at Denton, TX American Legion Hall
My family's martial arts instructor, Dr. Alvin Mack, is a tenth degree black belt, President of the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame and specialist in martial arts therapy.    But of even greater relevance to what I'm about to say, he is also a Vietnam veteran with a distinguished record of service to his country.   Dr. Mack, founder of the Universal Martial Arts Academy & Training Center (UMAATC)  has joined forces with Commander Perry Patrick of American Legion Hall Post 71 in Denton, Texas to offer an innovative new  program for returning soldiers and their families.  This  UMAATC Program located at the American Legion Hall will  emphasize a 3-in-1 approach to self-defense instruction: mind, body & spirit.

I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember what the homecoming was like for our soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.  They were abandoned, spat upon, called ugly names  (although re-writers of this historical moment prefer to claim that these are myths).  Whether or not we think these wars were a good idea, (I didn't support any of them) the young men and women of our Armed Forces  were called to do a job and they did it with honor and sacrifice beyond anything the rest of us will ever know or have to experience.

Please join us, if you're within driving distance of the Denton American Legion Hall tomorrow, Saturday (September 8, 2012) for an Open House  & Silent Auction.at 2501 Spencer Rd, next to LA Fitness and behind the Kroger on Hwy 288, phone: (940) 349-8298      For those of you outside the area, please make a donation to this new program at the UMAATC website (scroll down and press the orange "donation" button in the left-hand column). Thanks.

Bytheway, my ten year old son, our friend Renane Burbank and I baked a special cake for tomorrow's silent aucion.  I guess I shouldn't let slip the fact that Renane was the only one who knew what she was doing.  And then too, there were a few mishaps.  I couldn't find the egg beaters, (because my son had unbeknownst to me borrowed them to whip up more bubbles in the bathtub.)   So,  I beat that "bad boy"  (not the son but the cake batter) with a wooden spoon, until my arms felt like they were about to fall off.  But I can assure you that we baked this cake with a bundle of love.

Please join us if you can.
