The NRA Has Become Bunker for Lunatics

The FBI should put every card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) on its "domestic terrorist watch list," and pronto.   After all that has transpired I can simply no longer imagine any legitimate reason for a sane, well-adjusted human being to come anywhere near that bunch of masculinity-challenged misfits. Decent, rational Americans  should feel ashamed to carry an NRA card in their wallet.  Shockingly, the NRA press conference arranged in response to the tragic Connecticut elementary school shooting, called for arming and training security guards to stake out every school in America to ensure the safety of children.  If sufficient funds were not available, then they would also accept volunteers (maybe like, George Zimmerman, the man who shot the unarmed black kid, Trayvon Martin.)  The paychecks of NRA lobbyists come from some of the most profitable businesses in the world --  gun manufacturers. No surprise there.

The mother of the Connecticut shooter, Adam Lanza, had an arsenal of unsecured weapons in her home because she belonged to an activist  arm within the NRA called "the Doomsday Preppers."   Many have asked why the woman didn't secure the weapons, knowing that her son was mentally unstable.  But those who ask such questions miss the point.  Doomsday Preppers do not secure their weapons, even from young children, for one reason alone.  To do so would defeat the whole purpose of what they're about, which is having weapons loaded and at hand since they've convinced themselves that Doomsday is at hand, and starving neighbors might be banging down the doors and breaking windows, at any moment trying to steal their food supplies.  

The Doomsday Prepper sub-culture, according to a recent article in Foreign Policy magazine "is based around fear of a sometimes ambiguous, sometimes specific disaster that is just around the corner, most commonly referred to by preppers as SHTF, short for "shit hits the fan."

These people are for real and if they're not stopped they will, like Nancy Lanza,  create precisely the nightmare reality for the rest of us that they managed to unleash in Newtown, Connecticut.
