Chris Hedges Explores America's Inner Landscape

Seldom if ever have I read an essay as powerful and real as Chris Hedges' "How to Think."  I have to thank friends Florence Tate and Malik Chaka for forwarding it, and thus making sure that this piece of wisdom arrived in my email box on a day when my soul scavenged for nourishment.  I am copying this essay in its entirety below.

Great essay. Call me an optimist, but the blind are awakening. There is a dialogue of many beyond the complacent structures and institutions in our society. And at times, this arrives through "turning a blind eye." I understand this refers to the lack of interest or compassion or moments of ignorance to the dangers of life's current situations. The issue would be to gather the ones that turn the eye and allow them the space to not only turn the eye away from one problem or devastating issue, but to turn away from the areas in life that they spend that time filling a void. In other words, less distraction equals insight. Out of sight, out of mind. Out of mind, insight. ...to be able to discern the dangers and revive them with empathy and compassion.
